The Association for the Promotion of Monozukuri

UK Branch

APM UK is a UK branch of the Association for the Promotion of Monozukuri in Japan. We are a non-profit organisation with an aim to run creative activities for children.

The goal of our branch is to promote ものづくり monozukuri (literally 'making things') and encourage local communities to understand the importance of monozukuri through the events in the UK.

We would also like to deepen our relationship between the UK and Japan in the field of science and technology.

What is monozukuri?

We believe that monozukuri is not just the craft of making something but a necessity of life. We have been making our lives more prosperous by processing natural materials throughout history. Every child should have the opportunities to think about the nature of these materials and how to use them to make a product, using them during creative activities and experiences is a very important element for children’s development. But today, there is very little opportunity of experiencing monozukuri to demonstrate their essential skill and experience monozukuri. This is it crucial to promote monozukuri.

What are our activities?

We offer small group activities or events for children to enhance their creative skills. Children will participate with their parents, families and adults in monozukuri using various materials. Under the current circumstances, it is difficult to meet up in person so we will put most activities online so that children can engage in them at home. We provide most of the essential materials required for each activity and children can easily use them with their own equipment (such as scissors or glue).

Our goal is simply for children to enjoy monozukuri and explore their potential.

Please check a forthcoming activity or event.

In addition

We also offer a cultural dimension of monozukuri such as Origami (the art of paper folding) and Japanese seasonal craft to introduce Japanese culture. Our aim is for children to learn about Japan through having fun.

Contribution

Sadly, these activities are not free. We will have to ask you to contribute to the cost of material and the postage at each activity. This vary but it will not be unreasonable. Please check the fees of each activity.
